Habib Koité & Bamada

Habib Koité takes his time.

«Kharifa» is his sixth studio album.

It can be said that the Malian guitarist has matured, evolved, while once again successfully keeping one foot firmly anchored in the past.

This superb project was released right before the pandemic.

Habib Koité takes his time and builds, step-by-step, an exemplary career begun in the early 1990s

Habib Koité & Bamada @ Hambrook Village Hall

Hambrook Village Hall, Chilham

Habib Koité is one of West Africa's most popular musicians, and one of Mali's greatest guitarists.
He's performed more than 1500 concerts around the world in a career spanning four decades, and enjoyed international recognition - particularly in the US where he counts Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Eric Bibb and Jenny Lewis among his collaborators.
But it's his enduring fascination with Mali's rich musical traditions and instrumentation that is central to his continued success. These sounds permeate his latest album Kharifa, recorded in Bamako in 2019 with guests including Toumani Diabaté among others.
Habib Koité and his band Bamada will be supported by Gambian kora masters Sura Susso and Jally Kebba Susso - cousins from the same family of griots, and each prodigious talents in their own right - completing an evening of captivating West African sounds.
Presented in association with Africa Night Fever.
